• 100 hours of practical activity including self-assessment and workplace experience (in-person)

The programme is delivered through a combination of knowledge modules (KM), practical modules (PM) and workplace experience modules and covers the following content:

1. Introduction to the ECD sector in SA
   • 2 knowledge modules
2. Child development theory
   • 1 knowledge module
3. Planning and programme development in ECD settings
   • 3 knowledge modules | 1 practical module | 1 workplace experience module
4. Promotion of health, safety and well-being in children
   • 1 knowledge module | 3 practical modules | 1 workplace experience module
5. Observation and assessment in early childhood development
   • 3 knowledge modules | 2 practical modules | 1 workplace experience module
6. Facilitate and mediate active learning in an integrated and holistic learning programme
   • 2 knowledge modules | 4 practical modules | 1 workplace experience module
7. Administration for ECD services and programmes
   • 1 knowledge module | 1 practical module
8. Parent, caregiver and stakeholder relations in ECD
   • 1 practical module
9. Prepare for and complete external integrated summative assessment
